Work to Live is a sneak peak in to the lives of those who love what they do and are killing it. There has never been a better time to be an entrepreneur and do your own thing and I want to inspire, motivate and educate those on the edge of working to live – and not living to work!
I’m Andrew, a young entrepreneur specialising in ecommerce and other forms of online money making. I love hearing about people living a happy life the way they want to, and learning about how others are making money – online and off – to supplement their lives.
How It Came to Be
In 2011 I dropped out of a Graphic Design degree at Charles Sturt University Wagga, and moved to Melbourne to become a full time designer. Given my partial degree, I ended up with part time work for a couple of years and decided to go back to University to study business at RMIT. While there I put together my design, photography, WordPress and ecommerce skills and created Melbourne Beard Oil. It was the perfect side gig while I was studying, and before too long I quit my job serving tables at a café and focused on growing MBO. In my last semester at uni I scraped by, but by this point my attention was elsewhere and I was on track to clear over six figures selling beard care products, working around 20 hours a week from my bedroom – listening to podcasts!
Fast forward six months and business is booming. I was making a lot more than any graduation business position I could get as I watched my friends and classmates often settle for low paying jobs they hated (sometimes casual or supplemented by other work). Some of these people were brimming with business ideas and had that little ‘entrepreneurial tick’ but just didn’t have the knowledge, resources or drive to put it all together. This website was made to help those go from “I want to, but don’t know how” to “Lets do it!”.
The fact of the matter is, there are SO many people you don’t know or have never heard of that are living amazing, fulfilling lives doing what they love to do and couldn’t imagine doing it any other way (myself included). I want to share their stories and above all else, turn the ‘want-repreneurs’ in to real entrepreneurs.
Why Work To Live?
- I want everyone who has considered becoming an entrepreneur to take the leap of faith and do it! It’s not for everyone, but if it’s an itch that just won’t go away, you won’t know until you try!
- Share the amazing stories of others. There is nothing quite as inspiring or motivating as hearing someone tell a great story of their journey from zero to hero.
- Share knowledge. There is so much to know as an entrepreneur and you will never know it all, but understanding all the different hats to wear is a great place to start. Listening to stories of different ways of life can really change your perspective and open you up to new ways of thinking.
- I could use the networking. Working by myself in my room and listening to podcasts is great, I love it, but I’m not exactly a spectator-sport kind of guy…let me get amongst it and build some relationships.
- I love the podcast medium. I think Podcasts are an amazing form of entertainment and the great ones have this crazy ability to make you feel like you are sitting quietly with the podcast members and are part of the experience! Almost anytime you are listening to music you could be growing as a person and inspiring yourself to stop living to work, and start working to live!
